Experienced Divorce Representation

When people are facing a divorce, they are often concerned about how they will be able to afford to live as separate households. Will they receive or pay alimony or child support? Who will get custody of the children? These are important issues that are best resolved with the help of a family law attorney.

I am Shari McPhail, Attorney at Law. If you need divorce representation, I can help you work through the financial and legal details. I understand that this is a difficult time for you. I treat everyone involved with respect as we work towards a solution. For a free consultation with a divorce lawyer, please call or contact me online.

Property Division, Alimony and Child Custody

One of the steps in a divorce is the division of marital property. This includes real property, personal property, financial assets and retirement accounts/plans. You must also divide marital debts. In West Virginia, the marital estate is subject to an equitable distribution of assets. I can help you determine which assets are part of the marital estate and which are separate.

Alimony (spousal support) may be granted to either spouse based on financial need, earning capacity and the standard of living during the marriage. I can help you argue for an amount that is fair to both parties.

Shared parenting time is often called "custody and visitation." The court determines the amount of parenting time (custody) by what is in the best interest of the child.

Let's talk about your divorce and custody needs. Please call my office at to schedule an appointment.
